Our mom, Edna Lorene Burks was a sweet, loving and wonderful person. She was born in Hempstead, Texas in 1931. Mom had four brothers and two sisters whom she cared for because she was the oldest. Our mother truly had a loving and caring heart. She taught us to be strong and loving as well. I believe the best thing our mom taught us was when we didn’t have much money, she taught us to live on what we had, the essentials. She taught us to be clean and self sufficient. She made a little go a long way so we learned to take care of our babies very well. We loved her smile, great heart and wonderful hugs! She loved to put her hands in God’s great earth and watch the beautiful blossoms rise up. That greatly made her very happy. She loved having coffee in the morning with Joe and listening to their music. Our mom will dearly be missed to all that knew her well. Lorene was with USPS for 21 years, retired as post master March 31, 1995.
