Edna "Scotty" Cox

On November 18, 2024, Edna M. (Scotty) passed away at the age of 90. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was born on December 7, 1933 to parents Artis and Winnie Scott in Tarkington Prairie, Texas. Growing up she attended Tarkington High School and was a great basketball player for the Tarkington Longhorns.

She married Donald Cox of Coldspring and raised her family in the Evergreen Community. She helped her husband farm peas, corn, and other vegetables, herd cattle, and worked in the San Jacinto County Clerks office, as well as being elected District Clerk until she retired in 1994. She gained many friends through the years and treated everyone with kindness and compassion.

Scotty was a great cook and enjoyed having her and her husband's combined families for holiday meals at her house. Her daughters, Wanda Gail and Judy, helped prepare the food. Sometimes there would be 30 or 40 people for lunch and dinner.

Scotty was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and sister. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Scotty was preceded in death by her husband Donald Cox, parents Artis and Winnie Scott. sister Mary E. Bailey, and brother Billy Dale Scott. She is survived by daughters, Wanda Gail Smith and husband Johnny and Judy Durdin and husband David. She is also survived by her sister Johnny D. Matlock and her brother Artis Glenn Scott and wife Jean. Her granddaughters Jennifer Daniel and husband Phillip and Jessica Phillips and husband Wesley also survive her. Her grandson Brody Smith as well as great-grandchildren Saige Sebren, Skylar Sebren, Meredith Daniel, and Wesley Phillips survive her as well. She has one great-great grandson, Royce Holmes.
