Douglas Eugene Thornton, 88, of Kenefick, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2015, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2015, at the French Cemetery with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Douglas was born march 12, 1927 in Veach, to parents; Paskel and Addelia Bryan Thornton, and has been a lifelong resident of Kenefick. He was a veteran of the US Army with service during WWII, a retired owner/operator of Thornton Logging, and sawmill operator. He also enjoyed reading Louis LAmour novels, gardening, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Maxine Roundtree Thornton, son: Henry Spike Thornton, two brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his daughters: Eva Psencik and husband Edwin of Eastgate and Jackie Allen and husband Glen of Kenefick, sons: Ray Thornton and wife Kathy of Hardin and Johnnie Nicar and wife Tammy of Liberty, 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, eight great great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
