Dorothy Marie Motteshard-Pickering

Dorothy Marie Motteshard-Pickering, age 88 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017. She was born in Childress, Texas to John Henry Motteshard and Erin Beatrice Killebrew.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Her loving husband, James Edward Pickering; children, Billy Ray, John Andrew and Joe Lyn Pickering; sister, Callie; brothers, Johnnie and Tommy (Bennie); her mother and father in law, Mary Cagle-Plunk and Nolan Plunk; stepfather, Virgil Taylor; and father in law, Tommy Pickering.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Robert Earl, James Richard, Gary Wayne and Paul Edward Pickering; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren and her “Church Family” of Peace Tabernacle Assembly of God Church.

Dorothy spent most of her early childhood in the Texas Panhandle. A large portion of that childhood was spent at the Presbyterian Home for Children in Amarillo, Texas.

Dorothy graduated from Conroe High School in 1948. She met James Edward Pickering while working at Walgreen’s Drugs in Conroe. They were married in 1950.

Most of her life was spent as a housewife and mother to seven sons. After the boys were older she worked at several grocery store delis.

Dorothy’s family would like to thank Provident Memory Care of Livingston and Harbor Hospice for the loving care they provided her in her final years.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 16, 2017 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Montague Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
