Dorothy Jean Simmons

Dorothy Jean Simmons, age 80 of Shepherd, Texas, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017. She was born October 31, 1936 in Terrell, Texas to parents Floyd Ellis and Emma Lillian Rush who preceded her in death along with her husband, James Simmons; son, Johnny Simmons; brothers, Floyd Dee Rush, James Roberson Rush “Sonny Boy” and Robert Lee Rush; sisters, Peggy Sue Rush and Virginia Ann Rush; granddaughter, Danaesha Simmons; and grandson, Scott Richards.

Survivors include her daughters, Doris and husband Daniel Gomez, Belle and husband Randy Gustavus; sons, Kenneth Simmons, Jimmy Simmons and wife Terry, and Billy Simmons; brother, Ernie and wife Sue Rush; twenty grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, nieces, Nancy Copley and Connie Hawthorne; numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2017 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Morgan Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas. The family would like to give a special thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice.
