Obituary for Dorothy Mae Ruffin Elliott
Dorothy Mae Ruffin Elliott, born March 31, 1944, in Pointe Coupe Parish, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, in Liberty, Texas, at the age of 80. She was the daughter of the late Walter Ruffin and Fay Robertson.
A devoted member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Dorothy’s commitment to her faith and community was evident throughout her life. She served as a dedicated church worker, cleaning and contributing her time to various church activities. Dorothy was also actively involved in the rodeo committees for the church and worked with the Bishop's Faith Appeal.
Dorothy’s love for life was infectious, and she had a deep appreciation for Zydeco music and dancing. Red was her favorite color, and she was known for her warm heart and willingness to help others. Her kind and giving nature touched everyone she met, and she made lifelong friends everywhere she went.
In addition to her community involvement, Dorothy pursued a career in nursing, attending Lee College School of Nursing, where she obtained her LVN. She worked for many years at Golden Charm Nursing Home in Liberty and later served as a Medicare and Medicaid nursing consultant for 10 years. Dorothy had lived in the Liberty/Ames area since 1969 and was a beloved figure in the community.
Dorothy was a loving and devoted mother, always putting her family first. She is survived by her sons, Robert Louis Elliott, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Rashad L. Elliott, and daughter Rochelle Zeno and husband Thomas. She also leaves behind her special nephew, Jon Patrick Dugat, and her five brothers, Bobby Ruffin and wife Norma, Walter Ruffin and wife Paulette, Ellis Ruffin, Patrick Armstrong, and Keith Armstrong. Her sisters, Ethel Ryans and Angela Robertson, sisters-in-law Marguerite Isadore-Ruffin, Shirley Ruffin Washington, Leola Ruffin also survive her. Dorothy was a proud grandmother to Ravyn Elliott, Shaquenee Elliott, Raeshell Elliott, Eboné Zeno Veshlage and husband Rick, Emoree Zeno and Erin Zeno, and great-grandmother to Reno Prince Lee Wallace, Emoree Mia Shelton, Madisyn Wickliff, Mya Wickliff, MaKenzie Scott, and Raelynn McBride. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Louis Elliott Sr., sons Reno Elliott and Roderick Elliott, and brothers Arthur Ruffin, Leon Ruffin, Wilfred Ruffin, Harold Ruffin, Charles Ruffin, Janell Armstrong, and Frederick Armstrong. She was also preceded by her sister Joel Ruffin Dugat and nieces Jackie Dugat, Twanna Ruffin, Kim Ruffin and Phyllis Ruffin.
Dorothy's legacy of love, kindness, and service to others will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing her path. A special thank you to everyone for the phone calls, prayers, visits and food that was brought to the family.
