Dorothy Carnes Mathis, age 88 and a resident of Huntsville, Texas, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013. She was born in Cleveland, Texas and was a 1943 graduate of Cleveland High School. After graduation she moved to Orange, Texas and worked 46 years in Civil Service at the Navy Base and was the last civilian employee. She was a member of Cove Baptist Church in Orange, Texas and had her 88th birthday on November 22, 2013. She moved October 12, 2013 to Huntsville to a small private home care with five tenants. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Pastor Charles Wigley will preside over graveside services held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013, Cleveland Memorial Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Tara Lynn Mathis; sister-in-law, Betty Hughes Carnes; and her brothers, Charles R. Carnes and John N. Carnes. Survivors include her son, Gregory Paul Mathis of Beaumont, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Hobert Bean of Huntsville, Texas; brother, Gene Carnes of Cleveland, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Nell Cole Carnes of Cleveland, Texas; nephews, Monty Carnes, Marty Carnes, and Tim Hughes; nieces, Tammy Hughes and Hope Hughes; numerous other cherished family members and faithful friends throughout the years.
