Obituary for Doris Velma Springer Tamiggi July 1, 1932 – March 7, 2025

Doris Velma Springer Tamiggi, 92, of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025. Velma was born on July 1, 1932, in Dayton, Texas, to George Leeberry Springer and Goldia Beatrice Mosley. She spent her early years in Dayton before briefly moving to Weirton, West Virginia when she got married. Velma then returned to the Dayton area in 1981, where she remained for the rest of her life.

Velma was a beloved member of the Grace Liberty Church in Liberty, Texas. She was known to all who attended as “Maw Maw,” the self-appointed church greeter with a warm smile and a heart full of love. Velma delighted in sharing homemade cookies with others, always offering a kind word and a welcoming presence. She was a cherished part of the church family, and her kindness and devotion touched the hearts of many.

In her younger years, Velma enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and cake decorating, skills she often put to use while working at Thriftee's Bakery. She was particularly known for her famous coconut cream pie, a treat she generously shared with friends and family. Velma also took great pride in her garden, growing vegetables she loved to share with others. Her 14-ounce tomato became a point of pride, and she once brought it to church to show it off to her friends.

Velma had a big heart and adopted anyone who needed a friend or family. She was a devoted caretaker, offering comfort and support to those who were ill or in need. Whether it was making soup for someone who was sick or being a shoulder to cry on, Velma was always there for others. She was also an active member of the Kenefick Activity Club, where she formed lasting friendships and was known for her compassionate and caring nature.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank David Tamiggi; her son, David Lee Tamiggi; and her sister, Elsie Marie Brenneman. She is survived by her daughters, Pauline Bond and husband Joseph T., and Barbara Foster and husband James H.; her sister, Edith Joyce Hummel; her grandchildren, Aaron Leeberry Bond, Jolene Velma Rodgers and husband Brian, Patrick David Tamiggi and wife Kelly, and Amanda Tamiggi Anderson and her husband Aaron; her great-grandchildren, Ethan Leeberry Bond and Luke Alexander Johns; and numerous other family members and friends who will dearly miss her.

A visitation will be held for Velma on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. A service will follow on Thursday, March 13, 2025, with a short visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m., also at Pace Stancil Funeral Home. Pastor Clint Sylvester will officiate, and pallbearers will be Aaron Bond, Brian Rodgers, Jeremy Rogers, Jonathan Rogers, Patrick Tamiggi, Keaton DuPont, and Freddie DuPont.

Velma will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, care, and unwavering love for her family and community will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
