Doris Damek Alston, 89, of Dayton passed away peacefully on September 15, 2018 in Victoria, Texas. She was born April 26, 1929 in Dayton, Texas to parents, John Damek, Sr. and Mary Graeff Damek.
Service for Mrs. Alston will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery.
Doris attended Dayton public schools and while laboring in a hayfield was offered a job by J.H. Rose. She worked thirty plus years for Rose Truck line as a payroll accountant until they closed and later for Adams Carrier. She was raised on a working farm in the Eastgate community and she always embraced that life. She was most happy when tending cattle with her husband. She loved all the animals and helped train many Catahoula working dogs and had all types of feathered flocks. Doris was well known for her strength of character, reliability, trustworthiness, and integrity. These traits were reflected in all aspects of her life, from her daily work to her commitment to husband, family and friends.
Mrs. Alston was preceded in death by her parents, John Damek, Sr. and Mary Graeff Damek; her husband of 63 years, James Elmo Alston; her sister, Margie Damek Tucker; brothers, Charlie, Robert, Johnny, and James “Buster” Damek. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Ollie Davis; brothers, Oliver “Sonny” Damek, Herman Damek and Paul “Shorty” Damek all of Dayton; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
