Donald Wayne Simpson, age 75, passed away on April 6, 2024, in Baytown, Texas. Born on July 3, 1948, in Longview, Texas, Donald was the beloved son of Ross D. Simpson and Doyalene Gipson.
Donald spent the last two decades of his life in Dayton, Texas, where he became an integral part of the community. Before settling in Dayton, he resided in various Texas cities including Houston, Pasadena, and Tyler. He was a proud graduate of Pine Tree High School in Longview, where he excelled in both football and track. In his youth, he was affectionately known as "Crazy Don".
An avid golfer, Donald shared his passion for the sport with his wife, Lynda, and his brother. He found solace in fishing and cherished the adventures of traveling. Always on the move, Donald was a diligent worker who never shied away from conversation, possessing the remarkable ability to engage anyone on any topic. He often described himself as ornery but endeared himself to many with his spirited personality.
Family was at the heart of Donald's life. He cherished his wife of 30 years, Lynda Simpson, and was a devoted father to his sons Michael Todd Simpson (Kim) and Jason Simpson, as well as his daughters Latisha Simpson, Cheron Simpson, and Crystal Ehrhardt. He leaves behind his brother Norman Simpson (Angela), sisters Charlotte Mitchell (Joe) and Susan Halligan, along with ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished relatives.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Doyalene Simpson.
A memorial service to celebrate Donald's life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.
