Donald Roberts

Donald Conway Roberts, 96, passed away on May 6th, 2024. Donald was the younger of 2 sons born to parents Thomas Ross Roberts and Ora Conway Roberts on May 25th, 1927 in Conroe, Texas. 

While enlisted  in the U.S. Navy, Donald studied Radar Technology. Donald’s life was marked by a fulfilling career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, one that spanned over 35 years. After meeting the love of his life on a blind date, Donald Roberts and Annie Louise got married in 1950 in Houston. Donald and Annie Louise had a fulfilling life raising their family and pursuing their interests and hobbies. 

In retirement, Donald and Annie Louise were avid travelers, having visited all 50 states as well some international travel. He also enjoyed sports and the great outdoors, and could oftentimes be found golfing, playing softball, or fishing. Traveling around the country in an RV gave them both great joy until finally settling back in his hometown of Coldspring. 

Above all else, Donald enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and cats. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. 

Donald is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Louise Roberts; and his parents, Tom and Ora Roberts, and older brother, Tom Ross, Jr.

He is survived by his son, Donald Roberts Jr. and wife Maria Inez Medeiros; daughter, Patricia Gates and husband Tom; grandchildren Alec Gates and wife Cheryl, Hannah Gates, Delaney Gates; great-grandchild, Kira Gates; as well as many other relatives and friends. 

A graveside service for Donald will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, May 14th at 11:00am, with Pastor Phil Herrington officiating.
