Donald Louis Smith, 82, of Splendora passed away June 26, 2014. He was born July 16, 1931 in San Antonio. His parents were Joe G. and Mary Gist Smith. The Smith family moved to Splendora in 1970 from Houston. He worked for Brown and Root as a heavy equipment inspector and was owner operator of the Smith Gun Shop in Splendora. Donald enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He cherished spending time with his family. He was very active in AA and had just celebrated 47 years of sobriety in May. Donald also was co-founder of the Splendora AA that meets at the Country Side Methodist Church each Monday and Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Donald and his wife Frances are members of the Splendora First Baptist Church. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Splendora First Baptist Church with Rev Bob Grayson officiating. Visitation for Mr. Smith will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland. Interment will follow at Splendora City Cemetery. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael Joseph Smith. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances Smith of Splendora; three daughters, Anna Lois Boyett and husband Richard, Carol Dishongh and husband Harold, and Linda Willis and husband Larry; two sons, Jay Smith and wife Sissy and Donald Lee “Red†Smith and wife Tracy; thirteen grandchildren, Jamie and Lindsey Boyett, Jana Boyett-Buller, John and Keith Willis, Rachel Willis-Coleman, Carli, Skyler, and Jake Smith, Cori Smith Christensen, Jeremy and Kayla Smith and Faith Dishongh; nine great-grandchildren, Anna Beth and Maggie Mae Willis, Hayden and Hannah Coleman, Ramsey and Piper Smith, Addi and Presley Christensen, and Juliet Buller; also a host of other friends.
