Delbert Loren Morris

August 9, 1925 — November 7, 2018

Delbert Loren Morris died on November 7, 2018, at the age of 93.

Delbert was born to Madison (Matt) Morris and Gertrude Morris on August 9, 1925, in Armel Colorado.

Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Navy, where he was a radioman on the USS Pickens, a troop transport ship that delivered Marines to Iwo Jima. After he was discharged from the Navy, while visiting his sister, Marie Stone, she introduced him to the love of his life, Elnora Gray, who was the babysitter for her children. They were married in La Pryor, Texas, on July 20, 1947.

Delbert enjoyed a successful career with Central Power and Light Company, beginning with a job as Clerk in the local office in Crystal City. He then moved to Pearsall. He was later promoted to Traveling Auditor in Uvalde. From there he was promoted to District Auditor in Laredo, and retired from the company in 1987 as District Auditor of the largest district in the company, in San Benito.

He was a devoted husband and father. He was an avid reader. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church in every city where he lived. He was often called upon to preach when a substitute pastor was needed in Laredo. He ministered to many people in times of need. But most of all, he showed his Christian faith by example, in the way he lived his life. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cleveland, Texas, at the time of his death. He was a member of service organizations throughout his life. In Pearsall, he was part of a group who was instrumental in bringing a hospital to the community. He was generous with both time and money, to charities and individuals who needed his help through the years.

He was known for being a man of few words. As everyone knew, when he said something, it was going to be important, and you should listen.

After retirement, he and Elnora traveled extensively. When their granddaughter Emma was born, they moved to Houston and then to Coldspring, to be close to her as she grew up. Recently, the family had lived in Tomball. When Elnora developed Alzheimer’s, he devoted his life to her care, until her death in September of 2018.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elnora, infant son, Frank Madison Morris, his parents Matt and Gertrude Morris, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Stone and Phil Stone, Marilyn Bullard, and Robert Johnson. Also sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jennie Lou See and Chester See; Nellie Ede and Woodrow Ede; Bessie Hossman and Curly Hossman; and Hugh Gray.

He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Morris and Marsha Morris of Tomball, Texas, granddaughter Emma Schoenemann of Livingston, Texas, his sister Carolyn Johnson of Lakewood, Colorado, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Dolly Gray of Miami, Oklahoma, brother-in-law Dwayne Bullard of Castle Rock, Colorado, and his beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on November 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cleveland, Texas, with Pastor Victor Frank officiating. His ashes will be interred next to Elnora in the Knippa Cemetery in Knippa, Texas.

Condolences may be sent to the family at PO Box 1040, Coldspring, TX 77331.

The family would like to thank Michael Honey for the loving care he provided to Delbert and Elnora.
