Debbie Oates Short, 65, of Dayton passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 in Houston, Texas. Debbie was born April 1, 1954 to W. W. “Bill” and Ruby Oates in Dayton, Texas.
Services for Debbie will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Dayton with Rev. Forrest Wood and Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the First Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service at Magnolia Park Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.
Debbie was a lifelong resident of Dayton where she attended Dayton schools, graduating in 1972. She married her best friend and the love of her life, Ricky D. Short in 1973. Debbie worked for many years for Dayton Vacuum/Basic Energy before retiring. She was always full of life and loved visiting with her family and friends. Debbie also supported her three children and six grandchildren by attending all their activities through the years. She often said every time she saw her grandchildren her heart would go pitter patter. She loved to host family and friend gatherings. There was always a welcome door at Debbie and Ricky’s house, with a steady stream of kids in and out. Debbie had an infectious laugh and would always make you smile. She also loved to dance and to karaoke. But most of all, she loved the Lord. She will be surely missed by all that knew and loved her.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, W. W. “Bill” Oates and Ruby Phillips Oates; brother, Billy Joe Dove and wife Erika; nephew Randy Dove. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ricky D. Short, Sr. of Dayton; sons, Ricky D. Short, Jr. and wife Christina of Dayton; Stephen Short and wife Kim of Dayton; daughter, Kayla Short Golden and husband Donny of Elysian Fields; her grandchildren, Ty Short, Brie Short, Hudson Short, Bailey Short; Laney Golden and Leah Golden; sister, Nancy Oates Wood and husband Forrest of Fulshear; also numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends.
