David R. Pate, 63, of Dayton, died Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 15, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Liberty with burial following at the Houston National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. David was born February 24, 1950 in San Angelo, to parents; Verdell and Martha P. Thompson Pate, a former resident of Fredericksburg, and has resided in Dayton for the past eight years. He attended the Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School and San Antonio College, was a veteran of the US Army, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Liberty. He also enjoyed operating businesses, clock work, carpentry, musical theatre, and singing. Mr. Pate was preceded in death by his parents: Verdell and Martha P. Thompson Pate, infant brother: Preston Pate, and sister: Jane Smith. He is survived by his wife of 11 years: Virginia A. Murphy Pate of Dayton, daughters: Tara Pate of Spring Branch and Brenna Marazoff and husband Robbie of The Colony, son: Lyle Pate of San Antonio, stepdaughters: Gina Logan and husband Christopher of UT, Carolyn “Carrie†Sam and husband Robert of AZ, Stephanie Mitchell and husband Kelly of ID, and Elizabeth “Liz†Beals and husband Troy of NV, stepson: John Woods and wife Jennifer of Georgetown, brother: Jimmie V. Pate and wife Deanna of Harper, 26 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
