David Lester Carter, Jr., age 96, died Friday, February 1, 2019 at his home in Tarkington.
He is survived by his wife of 71 ½ years, Lennie Stone Carter; his sister, Geroline Carter Wood; two daughters, Connie Darlene Ede and husband Jim, and Sandra Jean Perryman and husband Tom; a grandson, Stephen Carter Hazen and wife Pamela; two great-grandchildren, Carter Paul Hazen and Vivian Josephine Hazen; step-granddaughter, Jamie Sue Ede; and many relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Lester Carter, and great-granddaughter, Audrey Aliza Hazen.
He was born on the home place in Tarkington Prairie December 8, 1922, graduated from Tarkington High School and after serving in the Navy during World War II he returned to Tarkington to live out his complete life on the same property.
David began working as a farmer with his father, then worked in Houston for a number of years at Hughes Tool Company. Wanting to be closer to home, he went to work for the Texas Highway Department where he retired in 1986.
Retirement years included raising cattle, gardening, traveling, reading, and enjoying family and friends.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the loving caregivers for assisting David in his wish to live out his life on the property he loved, Syble, Jeanette, Libby and Kelly.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Services will follow starting at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Ryan Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
