Daniel Wayne Cantwell

September 8, 1945 — May 28, 2017

Daniel Wayne Cantwell, age 71 of New Caney, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017. He was born September 8, 1945 in Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Luther Lee Cantwell; mother, Katherine Cantwell; and biological father, Alton Lee Jackson.

Dan Cantwell was a proud member of the New Caney community. He was known by most of the locals as The Mayor, always making his daily rounds patrolling the community in his jeep. He was his own kind of special. He was rough and gruff on the outside, but on the inside, he was a real softy for those he loved. He had an unspoken kindness, many did not know how many people he has helped over the years. He was always there to lend a helping hand or silently show his support. He was a member and past master of the Sam B Crawford Masonic Lodge in New Caney. He was a friend and mentor to many young men in our community. He was always up to something, never able to sit still. His favorite past time was hanging out, hunting, and fishing with his boys and friends at the deer lease in Zavalla. You often would find him in the morning at his local hang outs. You could find him every morning at the Hot Biscuit having breakfast with his friends. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran, who received the purple heart. He retired from Union Pacific, he was a railroad man. He lived his life to the fullest and lived without regret. He loved quietly and was the rock of his family. He was a Cantwell man, strong and proud. His boys were his legacy and his daughter carried his heart. To know him was to love him. He was always good for a laugh or pulling a prank too. You will be missed old man and we loved you.

Survivors include his daughter, Elaine Campbell; sons, Lonnie Cantwell and wife Misty, and Acey Jordan; sisters, Shirley LouAnne Roark, and Mary Jackson; brother, Thomas Lee Cantwell and wife Vera; grandchildren, Cassie Campbell, Wade Campbell, Morgan Cantwell, Skyler Jordan, and Chase Jordan; godson, Adam Cantwell; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
