Clifford Wesley Miller, Jr., age 80 of Point Blank, Texas, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017. He was born August 31, 1937 in Black Mountain, Kentucky to parents Clifford W. Miller, Sr. and Lorene Farmer Miller who he is preceded in death by.
Survivors include his wife, Ina Miller; son, Kenneth W. Miller and wife Kelly; daughter, Linda Miller-deBerard and husband Larry; brothers, John Pat Miller and Green Russell Miller; grandchildren, Collin Wesley Miller and wife Chelsea, Alexander James Miller, Sarah Lorene deBerard and Trisha Lanell deBerard; great-grandchild, Harlie Faith Warren; uncle, Russ Miller; numerous other relatives and friends.
Clifford W. Miller was born and raised in eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. Oddly, his move into banking was by accident. After being discharged from the Army in 1958, Mr. Miller was waiting to transfer to Fort Bliss to work as an electronic instructor. After stumbling across an ad looking for “financial employees”, Mr. Miller figured there could be no harm in at least inquiring about the position. After several test and interviews, Mr. Miller was hired for the job and has never looked back.
He began his financial career in El Paso, working with Southwestern Investment Company and moved on to finance operation focusing on collections and approving auto contracts. From 1972 to 1982, Mr. Miller held numerous banking positions throughout El Paso area. In 1985 Mr. Miller became employed by Amtex Bancshares, Inc., a three bank holding company in Orange, Texas began working at Bridge City State Bank, Bridge City, Texas. Then transferred to People State Bank in 1987 as the President, CEO and Chairman of the Board until his retirement in December 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Coldspring, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Houston Food Bank, The Salvation Army or the Wounded Warrior Project.
