Clifford L. “Slick†Strickland, 88, of Dayton, died Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel and conclude in the chapel. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Slick was born October 11, 1924 in Reese, to parents; Jewel I. and Ting Tanner Strickland, and a Dayton resident of the past 65 years. He was a graduate of the Jacksonville High School, attended the Abilene Christian College, was a veteran of the US Army Air Force with service during WWII and the Texas Guard. Mr. Strickland was the owner of Strickland Welding, instrumental in the development and construction of many Dayton structures, and enjoyed his work, fishing, hunting, and travel. Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his parents: Jewel I. and Ting Tanner Strickland, wives: Winifred Anderson Strickland and Bobbie Strickland, and brother: James R. “Jigs†Strickland. He is survived by his children: Linda Mears and husband Paul of MD, Clifford L. Strickland, Jr. and wife Gloria of Jacksonville, Jim Strickland of Dayton, and John Strickland of Dayton, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
