Cheryl Lynn Martin

August 11, 1964 — January 12, 2025

Cheryl Lynn Martin, known to all as “Sissy,” was 60 years old when she passed away at her home in Coldspring, Texas, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, surrounded by her family. Sissy was born August 11, 1964, in Houston, Texas, to Frank and Dolores Winfrey. At the age of 4, her family moved to Coldspring, where she grew up and lived on the same land her entire life.

Sissy’s passions included dancing, hunting, and rodeoing, and she later passed on her love of these activities to her children and grandchildren. She never missed a rodeo that her kids or grandkids were competing in and made sure they knew she was their number 1 fan. She was known for her kindness and compassion, treating everyone—strangers included—with love and care. Sissy had a heart as big as Texas and loved every kid like they were her own.

Sissy had a work ethic and determination that no 4’11” woman should have. She dedicated over 20 years of her life to the Cleveland Housing Authority, where she found great fulfillment in her job and had a deep affection for her tenants.

Sissy will be missed dearly by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.

Rest easy, Sissy. Your work here is done.

Sissy is preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Dolores Winfrey, her brothers Frank and Scott Winfrey and her nephew Colby Winfrey. She is survived by her sons, Casey Martin and girlfriend Katie, Wrangler Martin and partner Jacob, Lacy Martin and wife Colbee, and Ty Martin; brother, Terry Winfrey and wife Kim; grandchildren, Haydin Martin, Frank Martin, Kyler Merchant, Kason Minnick and Adelyn Martin; nieces, Tiffany Jacobs, Laura Winfrey, Kallie Winfrey, Kelsie Atkinson; and nephew, Ross Winfrey; along with numerous great nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16th from 5pm-8pm in the Pace-Stancil Chapel in Cleveland. Sissy’s funeral will be on Friday, January 17th at 10am at First Baptist Church in Coldspring. She will be laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Point Blank. Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Risner, Peewee Carter, Daniel Brown, Steven Swearingen, Brad Walker, Brian Gardner, Michael Youngblood, and Wes Abbott. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Vann, Randy Hillhouse, Roger Chreene, and Eric Holeman.
