Charles Carter “Red” Conner, 90, of Dayton, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. He was born August 29, 1928 in Daisetta, to his late parents, Charles Cole Conner and Margaret Ruth Long Conner.
Red was a “simple man”. He was a member of Dayton First Assembly of God Church and a resident of Dayton since 1967, was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and a retired oil field pumper from Getty Oil after many years of faithful service. His enjoyments in life came first from his family and also from hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Charles David “Chuck” Conner, Thomas John “Tommy” Conner and Cheryl Lynn Conner Nugent and a granddaughter, Shannon Oleta “Heaven” Padgett.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Willie Conner; children, Ethel Hiriart and her husband, Sid, Jo Ann Gilliland and her husband, Mike and Richard Conner; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Carlton Marcus Conner; special niece, Amy Phillips and her husband, Edgar; special cousin, Billy Long and his wife Sarah and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Dayton First Assembly of God Church with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Brother Charles Pierce, Brother Rich Cope and Brother Robert Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Daisetta.
Pallbearers will be Andy Hiriart, Brandon Conner, Bradley Conner, Bryan Fisher, Charles Gilliland, Colby Conner and Conner Gilliland. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Gilliland and Sid Hiriart.
