Charles Ray Pafford, better known as Ray, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away on October 13, 2024 in Dayton. He was born on April 5, 1948, in Dayton, where he would later spend much of his life. Ray was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, a testament to the strong bonds he nurtured throughout his life.

Ray dedicated 28 years of service to Exxon/Mobil and retired as a Process Technician, a role that not only showcased his technical skills but also highlighted his work ethic and commitment. Upon his retirement, he was celebrated as a respected member of the community, an embodiment of dedication.

A proud veteran, Ray served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, an experience that shaped his life and values. His faith was deeply rooted; he was raised in the Assembly of God Church, and this foundation sustained him throughout his life.

Ray was a member of the Liberty VFW Post #5621, where he connected with fellow veterans and gave back to his community. His passion for ranching was one of many facets of his life, and he was affectionately known as the "Compound Chief" on the Pafford complex and "PawPaw Cows” to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ray was a 1966 graduate of Channelview High School, a milestone that marked the beginning of his journey into adulthood. His love for life was evident in the joy he found in the simple pleasures, especially those shared with his family.

He leaves behind his cherished wife of 52 years, Rita Pafford; children Danny Pafford and wife Crystal, Michael Ray Pafford and wife Renee, Jennifer Perkins and husband James, and Robert Harmon and wife Brenda. Ray also is survived by his sister, Martha Reddemann, and brother, Charles Curtis Pafford, Jr. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, including Matthew Pafford, Bryant Ray Pafford, Tyler Billings and wife Logan, Caleb Brooks and wife Sadie, Mazie Pafford, Valorie Sell and husband Trent, Madalyn Pafford, Austin Ray Pafford and fiancée Arianna, Mason Billings and Katie Billings, as well as his great-grandchildren: Westen Higginbotham, Alister Ray Billings, Kenzley Pafford, Aspen Brooks, Everleigh Pafford, Sawyer Billings, Dominic Brooks, Damien Ray Pafford, Emma Higginbotham, and Lydia Brooks.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Curtis Pafford, Sr. and Edith Richards Pafford; his grandparents, Jettie Bell Higginbotham, Andrew Jackson Daulton, Bryant Lewis Pafford, and Martha Pafford; brothers Jimmy Pafford and Darrell Pafford; grandson-in-law Bobby Higginbotham; and great-grandson Preston Higginbotham.

A visitation will be held on October 20, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton with Pastor Guy Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Danny Pafford, Michael Ray Pafford, James Perkins, Tyler Billings, Caleb Brooks, Austin Pafford, Mason Billings and Bryant Pafford. Honorary pallbearers will be Trent Sell, Matthew Pafford, In spirit Bobby Higginbotham, Jeremy Pafford, Michael Curtis Pafford, Chris Billings, Billy Billings, and Kurt Noack.

Ray Pafford's vibrant life and his enduring spirit will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege to know him. He will be profoundly missed, yet his legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
