Charles "Charlie Jo" Bernard Joachim passed away on August 30, 2014, at the age of 85 in New Braunfels, Texas.Charlie Jo was born in Brownsville, Texas, on January 24, 1929, and grew up in West Columbia, Texas. He graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1950 with a degree in Business Administration. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Charlie Jo began a 40 year career as an independent insurance agent in Houston, Texas. In 1989 Charlie Jo and his wife, Junita, retired to their Lake Livingston home in Coldspring, Texas, where he enjoyed fishing, golf, playing cards, and traveling. Charlie Jo entertained his family and friends with his robust sense of humor, boating adventures, and amazing flips off the diving board. He lovingly devoted his time and talents to his family and his community. He was an active member of the Lions Club and was recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow for his service. He was also a life member of the Texas Lions Camp. In addition, Charlie Jo was a member of the Coldspring United Methodist Church and held leadership positions with the Methodist Men organization and his neighborhood homeowners association. He also volunteered for the San Jacinto County food pantry, Care Share.Charlie Jo is survived by his wife of 36 years, Junita Boedeker Joachim, his brother Herman Joachim and wife Caroline, daughter Vanessa Martin and husband Mason, daughter Julie Bierman and husband Kevin, son Scott Joachim and wife Sandra, son Kyle Joachim and wife Shannon, stepson Charlie and wife Theresa, stepson Richard Mayer, stepson Kenneth Mayer and wife Sharon, stepdaughter Marla Chaloupka and husband Brian, nephew Charles Lee Joachim and wife Angie, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frida Adrian and Joseph Joachim, daughter, Sara, brother, Leon, and his sister, Esther.A memorial service to honor Charlie Jos life will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Coldspring United Methodist Church, 1 Cemetery Drive, Coldspring, Texas 77331.
