Charles Douglas Rushing

Charles D. “Charlie” Rushing, 71, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Conroe Regional Medical Center in Conroe.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Charlie was known by many in the small town in which he grew up. He served his country by way of the U.S. Air Force, was a long-time painter in his earlier working years, and in the many recent years, you probably saw him driving around town in his big white delivery van, which was used for the flower shop he and his wife, Vannee, opened in 1995. If you ever stopped by there, he could be found leaning on the fence, probably smoking a cigarette. Charlie had a daily task of making his rounds around town and would make frequent stops at his favorite restaurant, D&M Diner, where he sat at "the liar's table" and drank coffee with his buddies. He was a faithful husband of 41 years to a hard-working wife, a father to two beautiful daughters, a paw-paw to two handsome boys, a father-in-law, brother, uncle, friend, and much more. His laugh, quick wit, and grumpy nature will be missed by all who knew him.

Charlie was born July 14, 1944 in Liberty, Texas to parents; H.I. and Thelma Gibson Rushing. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Rushing; and sisters, Nancy Pfeiffer, Chety Arnold and Rachel Smith. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vannee Rushing; daughters, Malinda Cuellar and husband Jorge, and Victoria Good and husband Josh; grandsons, Jeremy Alexis Cuellar and Miles Douglas Good; sisters, Barbara Collis and Judy Rice; numerous other relatives and friends.
