After graduating high school, Mr. Dodd went on to do roughneck work in the oilfield from 1951-1953. He was eventually drafted by the United States Army into infantry and ended up in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War, where he was a paratrooper. In 1954, he was named corporal and after serving 2 years he was honorably discharged in 1955. Mr. Dodd then went to work for Houston Police Department where he spent most of his 30+ years as a detective in the Burglary and Theft Division. He served on the Shepherd ISD School Board for 38+ years and the San Jacinto County Fair Board of Directors. He was sure to be seen at every football game. Upon retirement, he spent his days ranching. He never missed the opportunity to go to the casino or take a trip when life allowed. There is not a western movie that Mr. Dodd hasn’t seen. If you visited him in the last couple of years it likely involved watching westerns. March 31st, 1989 was the day Mr. Dodd celebrated his retirement from the Houston PD. On March 31st, 2025 he had the ultimate retirement party when Jesus took him home. He will be missed tremendously, but we are grateful for the promise of eternity.
