Cary Havard, Jr., 72, of Tarkington Prairie died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 in Houston, Texas. He was born March 26, 1941 in Cleveland, Texas to parents Cary Havard, Sr. and Beulah Berry Havard. Cary was a lifelong resident of Tarkington Prairie where he grew up on the family ranch. He was retired from the Coast Guard and the Port of Houston Fire Department. He sailed around the world on the seven seas and after retiring he returned to Tarkington Prairie he and his family settled on The Bitterweed Farm. Cary was a jack of all trades and well known for helping others. Services for Cary will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Day and Rev. Wayne Hardin officiating with interment to follow at Ryan Cemetery, Tarkington Prairie. Speaker will be Lloyd “Tall –Boy†West. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at Pace-Stancil in Dayton. Pallbearers are Michael Williams, Bruce Burnett, Johnny Dugat, Cody Havard, Bryan Reynolds, Jerry Tobias, Lloyd West and Bucky Havard. Honorary pallbearers are Ike Hunt, Leonard Riche, and Jerry Rhame. Cary was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter: Leslie Anne Havard; brothers: Leslie, Donald, W.H. “Boobâ€, and Curtis Havard; and his brother-in-law: J. D. Farris. He is survived by his wife of 45 years: Sally Legion Havard of Tarkington Prairie; his son: Shane Havard and wife Melanie of Dayton; his grandchildren: Cody Havard, Taylor Castillo, Allison Havard, Tyler Williams and Britni Wagenseller; his sister: Sis Farris of Dayton; his dog: A.J.; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
