Carrol Grace Laborde

Carrol Grace LaBorde-Massey, age 68, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in the early hours on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.

Carrol was born in Houston, Texas, on February 13, 1951, to Lang and Violet (Pillow) Smith. She attended grade school in Humble, Texas and moved with her family to Spring, Texas, where she attended Spring High School. Carrol married and started a family at the age of 17 years with Roy LaBorde, together they had a son, Stephen LaBorde and a daughter, Melissa LaBorde. After 17 years of marriage, Roy and Carrol parted ways. She then found love with her present husband, Dennis Massey, of 34 years.

Carrol had a very strong work ethic, no matter the job, she strived to go above and beyond. She worked several years at Smith’s Daycare in Houston, Texas, where she developed strong bonds with every life she touched there, co-workers, children and parents alike. She later went to work for U.S. Travel, where she performed numerous tasks, such as, printing and delivering tickets all over the Houston area. She remained there for 15 years, during which time she enjoyed taking many company trips to numerous places around the United States.

Carrol loved to laugh and smile everywhere she went. She had a smile that was contagious and an unforgettable laugh everyone enjoyed to hear. Her favorite way of passing time would be visiting with family and friends, whether by phone or in person, over a good cup of coffee. She always filled the house with all genres of music and loved to sing along to her favorites, such as, Patsy Cline, Etta James, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin and, of course, The Beatles to name a few.

Carrol was preceded in death by: Lang Smith (father), Violet Smith Sheppard (mother), Helen Mueller (sister), James (Boy) Smith (brother), Mildred (Doodie) Smith (sister), Wanda Porter (sister), Joyce English (sister), Linda Hoffer (sister).

Carrol is survived by her husband Dennis Massey, who will greatly miss the love of his life, her son, Stephen LaBorde, who will miss his “mama” dearly, her daughter, Melissa LaBorde, who will always cherish the time God gave them together on this Earth. Carrol also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Joshua LaBorde, Julie LaBorde, Jonathan LaBorde, James Sunday, Jessica Sunday, Jamie Sunday, and 1 great grandchild: Elijah LaBorde – to carry on her love of family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas.
