Carla Lisa Youngblood Welder, 59 died peacefully surrounded by her family on the 2nd of June 2013 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister, companion, and friend, as well as a highly respected employee who will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Carla was born March 18, 1954 in Liberty, Texas, the second daughter of parents Dick Coleman and Rosalie Flowers Youngblood. She grew up in Dayton and attended Lee College and Sam Houston State University. She was an educator in Dayton ISD for over 16 years. Upon retirement, she moved to Galveston where she was employed at Moody Gardens for almost 12 years. She started in the education department and was later asked to take the position of attraction sales manager with emphasis on education and sales. Carla enjoyed meeting and educating children and adults from all around the United States. Carla loved working with people and enjoyed cooking, sewing, and creating art. She was intellectually curious and an avid learner, but she most enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She truly enjoyed her time at the beach and her “great Galveston Islandâ€. With her common sense and honesty, she always provided a unique and refreshing perspective. Carla had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor with which she always surprised friends and colleagues. She always considered laughter as the best medicine. Carla was preceded in death by her grandmother, Irene J. Flowers; her father, Dick Coleman Youngblood; step-father, H.L. McCombs; her brother, Dick C. “Dicky†Youngblood, II and the father of her children, William Duncan Welder, III.
