Carl Hans Sanders, a long-time resident of Dayton, Texas passed away on August 5, 2013. He was born in Dayton on April 6, 1936, the eldest son of Hans Victor and Laura Lee (Wright) Sanders. Carl graduated from Dayton High School in 1954 and married the love of his life, Betty Onnie (Jones) Sanders in 1957. Services for Carl will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home. Carl touched many people in his life through many different avenues including his work, his faith, his many vocations, and his willingness to serve others. Carl had a long career with Shell Oil Company including many years with an oil exploration team which took Carl and his family to many parts of Texas. In 1970, Carl’s work brought the family back to Dayton where he worked in Shell’s Houston based data processing center. After retiring from Shell Oil, Carl spent time in Alabama working with a Christian organization focused on ministry to troubled youth and young adults. Carl also lived in Phoenix, Arizona and in Connecticut before returning to Dayton in 2000. In recent years Carl was dedicated to his work at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. Carl was a member of First Assembly of God, Dayton, Texas, but over the years he was actively involved in his various church homes in Texas, Arizona, and Alabama including obtaining ministry credentials in the State of Alabama and being ordained as a deacon by a congregation in Texas. Carl’s life has been dedicated to service to others. Most recognize Carl as a loving and devoted husband, a caring father and brother, a doting grandfather, a respected uncle, and a loyal friend to many. Carl had a love for woodworking, and many people across the country have enjoyed the fruits of his labor. He also enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes and had been an active HAM radio operator for many years. Always keen to learn, this year he had begun to learn how to play the mandolin. Carl will be remembered fondly for many things but at the top of the list would be his kind smile, his dry sense of humor, and his ‘servant’ heart. He is survived by his wife, Betty Sanders of Dayton, Texas; his son Carl Jr. and his wife Evelyn of Hampton, Connecticut; his son, Samuel of Dayton, Texas; his sister, Jean Lewis of Clifton, Texas; his brother Bobby Sanders and his wife Linda of Dayton, Texas; four grandchildren: Mark, Josh, Cameron and Andrew, two great-granddaughters, four nephews and three nieces. Carl was predeceased by his father, Hans Victor Sanders; mother, Laura Lee Sanders and granddaughter Brooke Sanders. Share your thoughts and memories in the guestbook at www.pacestancil.com
