Bruce Shoemaker

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce Shoemaker, who departed this world on August 12, 2024, in Baytown. He was born on June 8, 1956, in Liberty to his loving parents Melvin Shoemaker and Orva Evans Shoemaker, both of whom have now reunited with him in eternal peace. Bruce was also preceded by his brother Gene Shoemaker and one nephew.

Bruce will be remembered not only for dedication to his work but also for the warmth he brought to the lives of those around him. He spent most of his years working in the oilfields, showcasing his strong work ethic, and for the last decade, he contributed his talents to Smart Materials. A man of faith, Bruce attended First Baptist Church in Devers. He resided in Devers for the majority of his life and had previously called Dayton his home.

In his formative years, Bruce graduated from Liberty High School with the Class of 1974 and later went on to earn an Associates Degree, a testament to his commitment to personal growth and learning. Known for his love of hunting and his involvement as a Scout Master, Bruce's leadership was also evident during his time as an FFA officer in high school.

A man of many facets, Bruce leaves behind a legacy woven with love and care. He is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Bonnie Shoemaker, and his children: Michael Griffin, Cari Gibson and her husband Jeremy, Senona Haugenater and Logan, Zachary Shoemaker and his wife Lisa, and Jeremy Shoemaker and his wife Katlynne. Bruce was an amazing grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by his sister, Linda Hewitt, and her husband Tinker, as well as his sister-in-law, Mary Shoemaker-Schatz, and a host of nieces, nephews, his best friend Hillary Deshotel, extended family members, and friends.

A man of integrity and compassion, Bruce Shoemaker's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, his memory forever cherished in the hearts of those who were touched by his kindness.
