Bonnie Rigby

December 28, 1922 — January 16, 2013

Bonnie Lois Campbell Rigby, 90, of Dayton passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in Houston. Services for Mrs. Rigby will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Dayton with the Rev. Dale Hill and Rev. Ernie Lenard officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday evening, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born December 28, 1922 in Merkel, Texas to parents Lee Raymond and Annie Lee Roland Campbell. Mrs. Rigby attended Merkel High School graduating in 1939 and continued her education at McMurry College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1944. She later received a Masters in Elementary Education from University of Houston. She met and married her late husband Anson Rigby in 1946 and they moved to Dayton in 1947. Bonnie was employed by the Dayton Independent School District, teaching elementary music and various grades 1-6. She was inducted to the DISD Wall of Fame in 1999 after teaching in Dayton from 1949 to 1983. She was a member of Lakata Club, Priscilla Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and Liberty County Retired Teacher Association. Bonnie was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and the Ladies 5 & 6 Sunday School Class. She also played the piano at the South Dayton Baptist Church. Mrs. Rigby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years, Anson Rigby and her brother, Billy Morris Campbell. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tom Stevenson of Katy; sister-in-law, Jean Campbell of Mesquite; also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
