Bobbie Nell Alford Zylks

Bobbie Nell Alford Zylks, 92, of Liberty, Texas, passed away on March 28, 2025.

Bobbie was born on January 26, 1933, in Minden, Louisiana, to Fred Perry Alford and Eva Wallace. Raised in Rodessa, Louisiana, Bobbie was a proud graduate and valedictorian of her high school class. She married her high school sweetheart, Melvin "Pete" Zylks, Sr., and together they spent 57 years of love and partnership before Pete's passing. The couple moved to Dayton, Texas, in 1973, where they built a life full of memories.

After high school, Bobbie furthered her education, earning her Associate’s Degree and began a long career at First Liberty National Bank in Dayton, where she worked until her retirement. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Liberty for over 50 years, Bobbie found joy in serving others, teaching, and being an active part of her church community.

Bobbie had a deep love for reading, especially John Grisham mystery/crime novels, and was known for her enjoyment of working through word puzzles. She had a particular fondness for "slash and gash" crime films and spent many hours indulging in them. In her younger days, Bobbie enjoyed riding horses and water skiing. She also had a great appreciation for a good meal, often enjoying dining out, especially for a well-cooked steak.

In recent years, Bobbie cherished spending time with her best friend, Rita, as the two shared a room together, watching TV, and having long conversations. Her family and friends will remember her for her warm heart, strong faith, and the love she showered upon them.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Perry Alford and Eva Wallace, her beloved husband, Melvin "Pete" Zylks, Sr., her granddaughter, McKenna Jo Bales, and her son-in-law, Mark Bales.

She is survived by her son, Melvin "Pepper" Zylks, Jr. and his wife Linda; daughters, Patti Bales, Cathy Majors and her husband Clint; grandchildren, Heath, Grace, Ginger, BJ, Angela, Keith, Melanie, Brian, Michael, Grace, Weldon, Brady, Holly, Heidi, Andi, Johnny, Lorin, and Joey; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends who will deeply miss her.

A visitation will be held at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Slaughter Cemetery in Rodessa, Louisiana, on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 3:00 p.m..

Bobbie’s legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
