Billy Green Sewell

William Green Sewell, affectionately known as "Billy Green," was born on June 23, 1949, in Huntsville, Texas, to Elma Jean Trapp and M.H. “Mutt” Sewell. He passed away at his home on February 9, 2025, at the age of 75.

Billy Green spent his entire life in the close-knit community of Coldspring, where he first met Anna Gail in the eighth grade. Their bond deepened throughout their school years, and they were united in marriage on August 16, 1969.

Following high school, Billy Green pursued higher education at Sam Houston State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Industrial Arts. For three decades, he shared his passion for learning and sports as a teacher of Industrial Arts and Physical Education at Coldspring High School, where he also made a lasting impact on students and staff alike.

An avid sports enthusiast, Billy Green had a particular love for golf and aspired to play at a professional level. Throughout his life, he remained active and dedicated to nurturing his interests and sharing them with others.

Raised in the Methodist tradition, Billy Green embraced the First Baptist Church during high school and joined the church in 1968. For the past 56 years, he devoted himself to serving and volunteering within the congregation, embodying a true servant’s heart. His faith was paramount in his life; he often expressed profound gratitude for the blessings he encountered daily and spoke openly about his love for "the Good Lord."

Billy Green’s commitment to service extended beyond the church. He proudly served two terms as mayor of Coldspring and dedicated 19 years to the city council, always eager to contribute to his community in any capacity.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Anna Gail, along with their children, Amy and Mark, and Mark's wife, Holly. He was also a proud grandfather to grandsons, Peyton, Keaton, and Jaxson. Billy Green is also survived by his brother, Melvin “Chip” Sewell, and his wife, Peggy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Stevie Davis Sewell.
