Billie Middleton Smith was born April 11, 1920 to John Wesley Middleton and Edna Hollowell Middleton in Rockdale. The family moved to Nolan in 1923, where she graduated from Divide High School in 1936. The family moved to Lamesa the following year. During World War II, she supported the war effort by working at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, CA. When her husband, Mike, was discharged from the Army after World War II, they moved to Corpus Christi in 1947. She taught at and later became Dean of Durham Business College from 1955 to 1975. She was a member of Parkdale Baptist Church, was active in Woodson Garden Club, and Philomath Study Club. She and her husband were long time members of Revelaires Dance Club. She had lived in Cleveland since 2003 with her daughter and son-in-law. Husband of 60 years, U. D. “Mike” Smith and also her parents, a sister, and two brothers preceded her in death. Her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Jack Anders; grandsons, Kevin Armstrong and wife Stacey, Mike Armstrong and wife Tish, Lonnie Anders and wife Joy, Tom Anders, and Jackie Davidson, 15 great-grandchildren, eight great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews survive her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, 3533 S. Alameda Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78411. The family of Mrs. Billie would like to give a special thanks to Cleveland Healthcare Center for all of their love and care during the time of her stay with them.
