Betty Joyce McGowen, 77, of Dayton, TX died on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Liberty Healthcare in Liberty, TX after an extended illness.
The wake for Mrs. McGowen will be 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with interment at Ligeons Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Betty Joyce Hubert McGowen a lifelong resident of Dayton, Texas was born in Dayton, TX to Tommie Lee Hubert and Lessie Lee Ligons on January 3, 1939.
Betty accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church. She received her formal education at Colbert High School in Dayton, Texas
.
Betty’s life was filled with love, laughter, her husband Amos and their children, grandchildren and extended family. Betty made her life’s work providing loving care for her family; especially her beloved grandchildren, her passion was cooking large meals for her family and she loved attending the school and sporting activities of her children and grandchildren. They could always count on her being there for their football, basketball, track and many graduations and award ceremonies. She also enjoyed spending time with her church family and singing in the choir.
Betty is preceded in death by her father Tommie Lee Hubert, mother Lessie Lee Ligons and Daughter, Yvette Elaine McGowen.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 61 years Amos McGowen of Dayton, Texas; her daughter Trellis and husband Charles Wilson of Dayton, her sons Lonnie and wife Skye McGowen of Atascocita, Robert McGowen of Dayton, Quanidos and wife Djuna McGowen of Kingwood, Paladin and wife Darlene McGowen of Kingwood; her sister Ola Bea Woods of Houston, Texas; 9 grandchildren Lonnie McGowen, Jr. (Tiffany), Patrick McGowen, Stephen McGowen, Kendrick Wilson, Jacqueline Hicks (Jabarri), Shanee Shivers (Rodney), Paladin McGowen, Jr. (Achlee), Jordan McGowen (Taran), Patience McGowen; 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of extended loving family members and friends.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Liberty Health Care Center in Liberty, TX.
