Beth Edwards was born September 12, 1920 at La Crosse, Kansas. She was the second child of F.A. and Grace Edwards. In 1926 they moved to an irrigated farm in Garden City, Kansas. They lived there for twelve years. During the drought the wells went dry. They rented their farm and moved to Hayes Kansas where the whole family went to school. Her father received his Masters degree and her mother received her Bachelor of Arts. They then moved to Colorado where both parents taught school. Beth graduated from the junior college in Lamar, Colorado. She got one more year of college after teaching one year, then went back to the University of Denver and received her Bachelor of Music degree in 1947. During this time she met Carl Carden, a student at the University of Colorado. They were married in March 1947 and Carl graduated in 1948. The same year their first daughter was born. To this union four children were born. She was the mother of Corliss Spence of Kerrville, Carolyn Walton, deceased, Steve Carden of Cleveland and Kathy Carden, deceased. Carl joined the space program and Beth raised her children and taught twenty years as a first grade teacher. In all their moves Beth taught in four states. She retired from Clear Creek School District after fifteen years. They built their home in Cleveland after retiring. Beth was still living there. She enjoyed baking, gardening and animals. She also had a passion for music and loves to sing, often providing specials for worship at the Shepherd United Church. She had been the state soloist for the Cleveland VFW Auxiliary for five years and a long time member of the Barbershop Group. Whether singing a solo in Sunday Worship service or serving one of her home baked refreshments, she always let her Christian Spirit shine.
