Bess Harvey

December 21, 1914 — April 2, 2014

Born December 21, 1914, in Stephen Creek, Texas, Bess Harvey lived to the fullest until she died peacefully April 2, 2014. She married Earl Harvey in Lovelady, Texas, April 15, 1933. Bess and Earl enjoyed a wonderful marriage until Earl’s death on December 28, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Arnet and Luther Hopkins; and sisters, Sue Moore, Bonnie Logan, Loyce Jones, and Edna Hopkins. She is survived by son, Kenneth Harvey and wife, Barbara; daughter, Linda Harvey Cotton and husband, Jim; grandsons, Steven and David Harvey, and Michael Cotton and wife, Ami; granddaughter, Lisa Cotton Caddy and husband, Eric. Bess also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Alicia Harvey and fiancé, Teylor Yarrish and Joshua, Lyndi, Samuel and Elli Cotton to remember her love and kindness. Numerous nieces and nephews are left with memories of her personality as well. Bess started her family in 1940 and her ambition was to instill morals and ethics into her children. Bess wanted her children to come to know Jesus as she had done as well as treat people with kindness and generosity. She was deeply rooted in all of her family and cared immeasurably for each person no matter the relation. There are countless examples of her dedication to her family one being her job at the school cafeteria. She sought a job that would allow her ample time for her children. When Bess saw someone in need she felt empowered to help them one on one the best she could. She helped in whatever ways she was able – never asking for anything in return. So many people have been touched by her generosity and her acts of kindness will never go forgotten. Bess will always be remembered as fun, spunky, and witty. Her smile was uplifting and contagious. She enjoyed Southern Gospel Music, gardening and camping with her sisters and family. Let this service be a celebration of her life knowing that she has left this imperfect place to be with her Savior and family before her. Visitation will be held Friday, April 4, 2014, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Coldspring, Texas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at Paul Horton United Methodist Church, Stephen Creek, Texas, with interment following at Mt. Zion Cemetery; Pastor Mariann Rayne and Pastor Mike Minter officiating. This obituary was lovingly written by her great-granddaughter, Alicia M. Harvey.
