Bertha Lee Rubit Broussard
A lifelong native of Raywood and Ames, Texas, she was born on the 8th of October, 1937. She attended school in Liberty, Texas and earned high school equivalency (GED). Bertha married Homer Sylvester Broussard and started their family. Bertha and Homer were happily married for over 60 years until his death in May, 2016. She was a lover of people and very outgoing. She often said that she never met a stranger. She enjoyed visiting friends and relatives and coordinating social gatherings. She was the matriarch of the Rubit and Broussard family. She spear headed family reunions and holiday socials. Everyone enjoyed her culinary skills, from gumbo to dirty rice to coconut cake, she was the best. Bertha also loved to travel which she and Homer did quite frequently.
She was a longtime and active member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. At Our Mother of Mercy, she served the Lord as Eucharistic Minister, assistant counselor of the Junior Daughters, volunteered at numerous Easter Rodeos and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver (Court 33) for 34 years. Bertha also volunteered at the church’s annual Food Fest.
Bertha Lee Rubit-Broussard, daughter of Armand, Sr. and Celina Chavis Rubit (deceased), died on the 25th of July, 2017. She was preceded in death by, daughter Selena Marie Broussard, her granddaughter Daphne Marie Webb, brothers: Ivory, Joseph, Armand, Jr., Abraham, Issiac Sr., Gabriel, and Roger Rubit, and sisters: Mildred Charles, Hazel Broussard, Rosie Rubit, and Lula Mae Rubit.
Bertha was a loving and dedicated Mother to her five children: Dianna Webb and husband Derrick, Rick Broussard and wife Zina, Sherman Broussard, David Broussard and Rhonda Broussard-Holmes. Her brothers and sisters: Leroy Rubit, Leon Rubit, Odelia Jackson, and Mable Stevenson. Her grandchildren: Christopher Baldwin and wife Tanell, Kellie Broussard-Curley and husband Tim, Austin Webb and wife Neilisha, Adrienne Freeman and husband Johnnie Freeman, Terrance Holmes, Jomesha Joes, DeAndre Broussard, Sophia Holoman, Brandy Holoman and Celeste Bradley, along with her great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Bertha’s Homegoing Celebration will be Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 101 Donatto Drive in Ames, Texas. Viewing will be 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., the Rosary will be at 10 a.m. ,and the service will be 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas.
