Archelene J. New Johnson, 81, of Cleveland, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 3, 2011, at the the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland. Archelene was born December 16, 1929 in Houston, to parents; LeRoy New and Marguerite Corley, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in the Cleveland area for the past 22 years. She retired as a secretary from Stauffer Chemical, a former elementary school tutor and hospice volunteer, a steadfast friend, a devoted wife, and tireless mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loving sister. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her father: LeRoy New, mother: Marguerite Corley Hopkins, and grandson: Colin McCarty. She is survived by her husband of 44 years: James “Ralph” Johnson of Cleveland, son: Stanley McCarty and wife Isabel of Cleveland, brother: Jimmy New of Santa Fe, sister: Zella Wallace and husband Calvin of Santa Fe, grandchildren: Christopher McCarty, Casey Hurtt, Kimberley Denson, and Kellie Eleby, great-grandchildren: Chris McCarty, Marguerite McCarty, Darrin McCarty, Araven “Missy” Eleby, Colin Hurtt, Alena Denson, Kristiana Denson, Ty Hurtt, Mikala Denson, and Chris Denson, Jr., granddaughter-in-law: Lydia Spencer, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
