Anna Veleda Clements Luce was born on November 3, 1931 and entered the heavenly gates on June 20, 2015. Born in Cleveland, Texas to Dr. E. B. Clements and Lelia Smith Clements, Anna, known as “Clem,†often accompanied her father all over town tending the sick and providing medicines to those who could not afford them. After putting her faith in her Savior, Christ Jesus, she was baptized at FBC Cleveland. It was at FBC Cleveland, in a Sunday evening Training Union class, where she met her Aggie and the love of her life, W. G. “Buddy†Luce. After graduating from Cleveland HS, Anna started college at Stephan F. Austin University, but after only one semester, she eloped with her Aggie. Buddy and Anna married January 12, 1951, had four children, lived all over southeast Texas and settled in the Sagemont area of Houston in 1973. A completely devoted mother and grandmother, Anna had wonderful relationships with her children and grandchildren. She never missed recitals, ball games, graduations or weddings and normally showed up with freshly baked goodies to share. She was a faithful member of the Victory Sunday school class at Sagemont Church for 42 years as well as the camp cook for multiple youth trips and church events. Serving at Sagemont Church was the hallmark of her life of helping others. In addition to her parents, sister Eleanor McKellar and brother James Booth Clements, Anna was preceded in death by Buddy, her husband of 54 years and her youngest grandson, Garrett Cole Luce, in 2012. She is survived by three generations; son Garrett Clements Luce with wife Rita and grandsons Thomas and Timothy Luce; daughter Melody Rummage with husband Russ and granddaughter Karen Turbeville with great granddaughter Catherine Turbeville; daughter Kathy Furlong and granddaughters Amanda Venable and Meredith Weber with husband Chris; and youngest son Joe E. Luce with wife Janell. A lifelong Astros and Texas A&M fan, Anna loved her family and her church more than anything. She enjoyed riding her bike, chauffeuring her friends in the last few years and making new friends at Treemont Retirement Community since 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Houston Hospice, where Anna was lovingly cared for in her last days. A service in her memory will be held Wednesday, June 24th at 1:30 p.m. at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home located at 303 E. Crockett St. in Cleveland, Texas. Burial will follow in the Cleveland Memorial Park Cemetery.
