Amy House Gould (94) passed away on July 20 at the Leonardville Nursing home in Leonardville, KS. Amy was born in Enfield, Middlesex England to Amy and Alfred James House on June 7, 1922. At the age of 16, she received a music scholarship to a London College where she studied the saxophone, clarinet and piano. After WWII, Amy joined the United Kingdom U.S.O. It was during this time while performing in Cairo, Egypt that she met and married her husband, Edwin Gould. After the war, they settled in Kansas City and later Texas.
Music sustained Amy throughout her life. She performed at Buckingham Palace, with Rudy Starita and the Starlites, with Gloria Gaye, and at the Hillcrest Country Club in Kansas City among many other venues. Amy enjoyed teaching music lessons in Texas and served as the pianist for the United Methodist Church of Shepherd until the age of 90.
Amy is predeceased by her husband, Edwin, and her beloved daughter Marilyn Susan Gould. Amy is survived by her son, Marvin Gould, daughter-in-law, Rebecca Gould and granddaughters Ashley Susan Gould and Chelsea Chance.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Leonardville Nursing Home and MeadowLark Hospice in Clay Center for their compassionate and loving care toward Amy during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the United Methodist Church of Shepherd Texas. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Shepherd United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Evergreen, Texas.
