Winston Blackmon

Winston Blackmon, age 73 and a resident of Coldspring, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2014. He was born December 25, 1940 in Sylacauga, AL to parents Claude Lawson Blackmon and Myrtle Kendrick Blackmon who preceded him in death along with Ruby Dark Blackmon, Dorothy Mixon, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mr. Blackmon graduated from B.B. Comer High School in 1959. He continued his education to become an Aerospace Engineer employed by NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston for 37 years before retiring. He was a member of Coldspring UMC. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, gardening, astronomy, and he also was assistant Scout Master for 27 years for Boy Scout Troop #30.

In lieu of flowers Memorials can be made to Coldspring UMC youth, Habitat for Humanity of San Jacinto County or Charity of your choice.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Froehner Blackmon; daughters, Robin Sweet and husband, Karl and Susan Rogers and husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Duncan James Rogers and Ethan Leander Rogers; numerous other family members and friends.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Coldspring United Methodist Church, Coldspring, Texas with Reverend David Green officiating; interment following at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 17, 2014, 5:00 p.m-7:00 pm, Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Coldspring, Texas.
